FORMER Saints star Sadio Mane has revealed the moment when he caught Jurgen Klopp's eye.

It came when the Senegal international was named a substitute on Ronald Koeman's bench during a game against the Reds back in March 2016.

Saints were 2-0 down before Mane was sent on by Koeman and netted twice in front of Klopp to help the St Mary's side win 3-2.

And the 27-year-old reckons it was this moment that prompted Liverpool to sign him.

He said: "I was at Southampton and we played against Liverpool. I was on the bench. We were 2-0 down at half-time. Coach Koeman sent me on to the field.

"We turned the game around and I scored twice. I was this insignificant player who had just given a huge performance.

"Liverpool was a club that notices players who tire them out, so they couldn't say no and Klopp called my agent."

Mane signed for Liverpool that summer in a £34million deal and, speaking about the deal, Klopp said: "It was great. Sadio wanted to work with me as much as I did with him so it was a win-win situation."
