FRASER Forster’s and Moi Elyounoussi’s season is effectively over - unless the Premier League allows clubs to increase their squad numbers.

The pair have spent the campaign on loan in Scotland with Celtic, but the decision was made earlier this week to curtail the season due to the coronavirus crisis.

Although they’ll leave Celtic Park with the league title, it’s unlikely they won’t play again until the 2020/21 season.

For them to be able to compete again before the current campaign is over, the Premier League would have to let clubs increase their current limit for players allowed in a squad.

However, that’s just one hurdle the duo would need to jump over.

The second element of the pair playing again is that, for the time being, Saints are training in an environment that only allows for small groups.

Because of this, the Daily Echo is led to believe that it’s unlikely neither Forster or Elyounoussi will be added to the list of players who have returned to Staplewood.

Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is overseeing training sessions that are restricted to a maximum of five players.

Before their season was curtailed, Forster was enjoying a sterling season with Celtic, the club Saints signed him from back in 2014.

The 32-year-old helped them establish a 13-point lead over Rangers at the top of the table and played a key role in their League Cup success in December.

Elyounoussi also started his loan spell brightly but it started to unfold after he picked up an injury that kept him sidelined for two months.

The Norwegian international made 20 appearances, scoring seven times.
