FC GRONINGEN director Mark-Jan Fledderus admits defender Deyovaisio Zeefuik "is ready for the next step", amid rumours of interest from Saints.

The Dutchman, 22, is in the final year of his contract with the Eredivisie outfit and has also been linked with a move to Hertha Berlin.

The right-back is believed to be valued at £5million and discussing his player's future, Fledderus hinted that Germany is his preferred destination.

In quotes translated from Fox Sports, when asked about Saints' interest in Zeefuik, Fledderus said: "In the end, the player must also want to go there, otherwise you still have nothing."

He added: "It is my impression that they (Hertha) still want it, but at the moment we are not yet together. They will have to reach an agreement with FC Groningen.

“Deyo has a contract with us for 11 months. We would prefer to keep him: I tried to renew, but he didn’t want that and I understand that too.

"He is ready for the next step."
