MOUSSA Djenepo has missed out on winning the Premier League's goal of the season award.

The Mali international was nominated for his stunning solo effort at Sheffield United in September – a 1-0 win for Saints at Bramall Lane.

Djenepo’s strike was named September’s Premier League goal of the month.

But it did not take the overall award for the season, losing out to Son Heung-Min's individual 71.4metre-dribble and finish for Tottenham Hotspur against Burnley.

Harvey Barnes, Matthew Longstaff, Kevin De Bruyne, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Matej Vydra and Bruno Fernandes were also shortlisted.

The winner was selected by a combination of fan votes and an expert panel, which included Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

"Few players in the world could have picked the ball up on the edge of their own penalty area, beat half the opposition team and then finished as calmly and precisely as Son did," said Wright.

"He showed so much awareness, speed and skill to beat the Burnley midfield and defence. It's a goal fit to win the award."
