SAINTS have "opened talks" with Danny Ings over a new contract at the club, according to a report in Mail Online.

Ings joined Saints, initially on loan, from Liverpool in August 2018, making the move permanent a year later for around £20million.

He penned a three-year contract last summer, with Mail claiming he earns £65,000 per week.

But it is now said Saints are looking to tie down the 28-year-old for longer after his stellar campaign in 2019-20, where he netted 22 Premier League goals and earned a recall to the England squad.

The report goes on to say while initial discussions have taken place, "no agreement has yet been reached".

Saints have recently given new contracts to the likes of Shane Long, Jake Vokins, Will Smallbone and captain James Ward-Prowse.
