DANNY Ings and James Ward-Prowse have kept their places in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this month’s trio of international fixtures.

Saints striker Ings has enjoyed a fruitful start to the campaign with three goals in as many top-flight games.

Having failed to find the net in the season opener at Crystal Palace, he fired a brace against Tottenham in a 5-2 defeat at St Mary’s last month.

He then went on to hit the winner in a 1-0 victory at Burnley, getting Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men off the mark for the 2020-21 campaign.

Ings played 22 minutes of England’s 1-0 Nations League victory over Iceland in Reykjavik last month, coming on in place of Manchester City youngster Phil Foden, who has been dropped.

Ward-Prowse played 90 minutes of that contest – and will be looking to add to his three senior caps having not missed a minute for the St Mary’s side this season.

England host Wales in an international friendly next Thursday (8pm), before taking on Belgium the Nations League on Sunday, October 11 (5pm).

Southgate’s Three Lions then play host to Denmark on Wednesday, October 14 (7.45pm).

The England boss insisted he could not promise club managers all players would sit out all three games - but stressed their workload would be managed.

He said: “We are certainly not looking to start players in three games.

“I can’t guarantee no player will play no minute of all three games. You might end up having to put someone on for five minutes and people will say you didn’t do what you said.

“Our aim is to manage the squad. We have got to be responsible. We are conscious of the welfare of the players.”
