AFC Totton suffered penalty shootout agony against Frome, as they exited the FA Trophy at the second qualifying round stage.
Glenn Howes’s side were beaten 6-5 on spot-kicks following a 2-2 draw at Snows Stadium, writes Jack Clarkson.
Ex-Totton player Jonathan Davies struck a free-kick from 25 yards out and put it into the top left corner to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Almost immediately the hosts bounced back with a brilliant free-kick of their own. Jack Masterton put the dead ball into the top right corner to bring the game back level.
With both teams fighting for that winning goal in the second half, it was Frome’s Sam Teale who took his chance inside the Stags’ box and put the visitors in the lead for the second time in the game.
But again, Totton bounced back when Ryan Oatley found the bottom corner of the net from outside the box to send the contest to penalties.
The hosts were left to ponder an FA Trophy exit however, after missing twice from 12 yards.
