INVIGORATED Theo Walcott believes his time back at Saints is making him “even fitter” as he continues his impressive run of form.

The forward, back at his boyhood club on loan from Everton this season, netted the opener against former employers Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

He charged on to a perfectly-weighted pass from Che Adams to clip the ball over Bernd Leno in the home goal, to put Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side ahead.

Gunners skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled in the second half to force a 1-1 draw in north London – but evergreen Walcott insists he has plenty more to offer.

“I’ve got so much more in my legs. I am absolutely fine and fit as you like,” he told the Daily Echo.

“I feel like this team is making me even fitter as well.

“I can play in any of the positions and we have competition for places.

“We are in a good place. The team are so confident, they look after each other, they trust each other, they are so honest and work so hard.

“When you’ve got that in a group, I feel you’re going to go places.

“I feel you’ve got to give credit to the players, the manager and staff because it’s a good place to be.”

Saints sit third in the top flight after claiming a share of the spoils against Mikel Arteta’s side, who played the final 28 minutes a man light after defender Gabriel was sent off.

“I feel like there will be a lot of the players kicking themselves, to be honest,” said Walcott when assessing the game as a whole.

“We dominated the game really in a lot of sense, that’s probably the only disappointment, not getting the three points.

“But then again, to come to the Arsenal and get some sort of result is always a positive, I feel.

“We felt very confident going into the game to be honest. The players have really wanted to start a new run after the Manchester United game.

“It just shows how far the club has come because we’ve possibly come away from this result a bit disappointed. But we are doing fantastically well.”

Walcott was brought down by Gabriel just past the hour mark against the Gunners – the foul earning the Brazilian his second caution.

Giving his take on the incident, Walcott said: “I turned him well, used my strengths and the referee has made a decision. It’s just one of those things that happens as a player.

“I just went in to roll him really, that’s what happened and he brought me down.”
