MANAGER Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed Danny Ings sustained an injury to his hamstring against Manchester City.

The striker was forced off after just 41 minutes of the 1-0 defeat at St Mary’s and was replaced by Nathan Tella during the first half.

Ings had missed three games earlier this season with a knee problem which required minor surgery.

He scored on his return to action against Brighton earlier this month, before playing 90 minutes against Sheffield United and Arsenal.

Asked for an update on the England star’s problem sustained against the Citizens, Hasenhuttl said: “I can't say now but it looks like a hamstring problem.

"He left the field early enough, we hope.

“This is the problem, we let him out there today and, if it wouldn't have been Man City, we wouldn't have done it.

"But we did it and now we get the bill for it. Hopefully, it is not too bad."

Raheem Sterling netted the winner for City after 16 minutes at St Mary’s.
