Sisu Capital remain the favourites to complete a takeover of Coventry City - and not Greek billionaire Alki David.
Mr David, a 39-year-old businessman, film director and actor reputed to be worth £4 billion, claimed he was confident of completing a takeover at the Ricoh Arena by Thursday.
But Mr David's claims appear to lack foundation as London-based hedge fund Sisu remain the front-runners.
Coventry, who host Saints on Saturday, will slide into administration if they do not have new investment by Friday, but chairman Joe Elliott is confident.
He said: "I spoke to him (Alki David) in a brief three to four-minute phone call yesterday morning and told him exactly where we are with Sisu, which is virtually a done deal.
"I've not heard any more from him."
Sisu proposed a takeover of Saints seven weeks ago but have not met with major shareholders Michael Wilde, Leon Crouch and Rupert Lowe.
