SAINTS manager Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed Jannik Vestergaard could be out for more than four weeks after picking up a knee injury.

The Danish defender, who has been in impeccable form for the St Mary’s side this season, did not feature in Saints’ goalless draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Jack Stephens came in to replace the centre-back in west London.

Speaking post-match, Hasenhuttl said: “Jannik is definitely out for four weeks – or even more. I don’t know.”

The boss also confirmed Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond were not available due to muscle injuries. Oriol Romeu missed out through suspension.

“We had four players not available for the team,” he added.

“Three of them were starting in the first XI last time.

“Without Vestergaard, Romeu and Ings, I think we did a good job. We had the better chances, scored two goals. One was a very close offside but fantastic play.

“It’s tough to win here because when you concede a goal here it’s nearly impossible to come back in the game.

“We have seen this in the past and it was most important thing to have at first a clean sheet.

“We did a good job against the ball and I don’t come here to think ‘we are Southampton, it will be easy to win here’ that’s not what I expected.”
