ORIOL Romeu is set to miss Saturday's FA Cup game against Shrewsbury Town due to a calf problem.

The Spaniard was a late withdrawal from the Saints squad to face Liverpool, pulling up with the muscle concern in training on Sunday.

Whilst he finished the session, Romeu was unable to feature against the Reds, with Ibrahima Diallo coming in to take his spot and helping Saints to a memorable 1-0 victory.

Asked for an update on the midfielder, boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "Ori is maybe one or two weeks out, hopefully for the Leicester game (on January 16) he is back."

Romeu has been an important figure for Saints this season, starting 15 of their 17 top-flight matches.

But the 29-year-old was not the only key player to withdraw from the side following the 0-0 draw against West Ham last week.

Alex McCarthy was unavailable having tested positive for COVID-19, while striker Che Adams also did not feature after taking a heavy whack to the head from the boot of Hammers defender Craig Dawson in his last outing.

Adams was withdrawn after 58 minutes of that contest and did not make the squad to take on Liverpool.

"Che is only out with a concussion, so hopefully also back as soon as possible," confirmed Hasenhuttl.

Saints host League One Shrewsbury on Saturday evening (8pm).
