YOUNG Saints midfielder Callum Slattery has joined Gillingham on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has joined fellow Saints duo Tom O'Connor and Tyreke Johnson, who are already on temporary stays at Priestfield.

Slattery, who scored for Saints' B team in the Papa John's Trophy defeat at Stevenage earlier this season, has made five first-team appearances for the club, all of which came in the 2018-19 campaign.

The former England youth international spent time away in Holland last year, on loan at De Graafschap.

Discussing his latest capture from Saints, Gillingham boss Steve Evans told the club website: "Callum is an excellent addition to the group. He is very highly thought of at Southampton and he is here to further his education.

"There is no doubt he is a talented boy and that is the reason he had lots of clubs keen to secure him on loan."

Slattery could make his Gills debut in their League One clash against Accrington Stanley at Wham Stadium on Saturday.
