GILLINGHAM have completed the permanent signing of forward Tyreke Johnson from Saints.

The 22-year-old had initially joined the Gills on loan earlier this month and made his debut in the home League One defeat by Burton Albion.

Johnson had made one Premier League appearance for Saints, but featured regularly in the club’s under-23 or B team.

During 2020, the forward spent time in the United States on loan at Hartford Athletic.

Saints said in a statement on the club website: “The club would like to thank Tyreke for all his hard work and dedication throughout his time here, and wish him all the very best for the future.”

Johnson made three senior Saints appearances, all in the 2018-19 campaign under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

His debut came as a substitute in a 3-2 Premier League win over Arsenal in December 2018, before also coming off the bench against Derby County in the FA Cup three weeks later.

Johnson made his only start for Saints in the replay against the Rams, as Saints lost on penalties to Frank Lampard's men.
