ARSENAL are reportedly considering a move for Saints full-back Ryan Bertrand, according to the London Evening Standard.

The publication claims Mikel Arteta is seeking defensive depth to add to his squad – with the Gunners boss revealing this week they were in the market for a left-back.

Bertrand is yet to sign a new deal at St Mary’s with his current contract expiring in the summer.

He could come up against Arsenal in the FA Cup tomorrow – but serves a one-game suspension when the sides face off in Premier League action on Tuesday.

Asked about his future at Saints by the Daily Echo last month, the England international said: “I want to stay. That’s my thought process.

“I see myself staying here and it would be great to be part of this club for the long haul.

“I’ve been here so long. I have still got plenty of years left in me. And to go beyond that and possibly work for the club even after football.

“I’m fully focussed on hopefully extending my contract here.”

The defender joined the south coast side from Chelsea, initially on loan in 2014, before making his move permanent the following year for a fee of £10million.
