Coventry 1 Saints 1.

Saints extended their unbeaten run to four games as they held Coventry to a 1-1 draw at the Ricoh Arena.

Off the pitch the Sky Blues were buzzing after completing a deal with SISU the day before that stopped them slipping into administration.

But on the pitch Saints played the better football and, though the draw was probably just about a fair result, on another day they could have won it with Bradley Wright-Phillips' second half header cancelling out Jay Tabb's dubious opener.

Saints thought they had taken the lead after just four minutes.

Adam Hammill managed to slip the ball into the path of Wright-Phillips who burst into the area but saw his shot saved by Dimi Konstantopoulos diving to his left.

Stern John was on hand to head home the rebound but was rightly flagged offside.

Kelvin Davis had his first save to make on eight minutes when Michael Hughes drove in a half cleared corner from the edge of the area which took a deflection but landed kindly for the Saints stopper.

Davis was next in action seven minutes later to dive to his right to keep out Leon McKenzie's header from Michael Doyle's deep free kick but again he made it look comfortable.

Saints had appeals for a penalty turned down when John tried to break into the box and the ball appeared to strike a Coventry hand but from close range and via a deflection it would have been harsh.

But Saints were even angrier with the officials when they fell behind on 18 minutes.

Michael Mifsud picked up McKenzie's cross on the edge of the area and his shot hit Jason Euell and ballooned to the far post.

McKenzie got an effort on target which Davis saved but it went up in the air where Tabb headed home from close range.

Saints surrounded the officials as it appeared Tabb was in an offside position when McKenzie had his effort but the flag didn't go up and it was 1-0.

Michael Hughes became the first man in the book for an ugly challenge on Hammill as tempers started to flare.

McKenzie caused more problems down the left as he beat Jermaine Wright and got into the box but Leon Best could only direct it wide at the near post.

Mifsud was the next to go close as he fired into the side netting from a tight angle on 36 minutes.

After some initial dominance for Saints the game was very even but it was Coventry who were creating the better chances.

Wright-Phillips at least threatened when turned inside then out but his drive from the edge of the area was blocked by a diving challenge from Ben Turner.

Davis made another good save on 43 minutes. Again it came from McKenzie using his pace to beat Wright and this time he shot himself from 20 yards but Davis dived to his left to stop and grabbed the loose ball.

Coventry had another chance a minute later but this time Leon Best headed over under pressure from ten yards out.

That proved to be the last chance of the half which ended with Coventry leading 1-0.

Best had the first effort of the second half but it was a comfortable stop for Davis.

David McNamme was the second player booked for a foul on Andrew Davies.

From the free kick on 58 minutes Saints equalised. Hammill fainted to take it from the left and Youssef Safri waited for the Saints players to get back onside before delivering it.

The ball came was flicked out across to the right where Euell picked it up and crossed to the far post where Wright-Phillips rose highest to flick a header into the near top corner for 1-1.

Burley made his first change on 68 minutes with Jhon Viafara coming on for Hammill and going straight to the right wing.

Coventry responded with a substitution of their own a minute later with McKenzie hobbling off to be replaced by Julian Gray.

After their goal Saints had looked the better side on the ball with Coventry struggling to come to terms with their slick passing.

It was often a bit of a battle in the midfield area but when Saints did string the passes together they looked generally dangerous and like they could snatch another.

In a bid to try and halt that Best was taken off on 72 minutes to be replaced by Dele Adebola.

Saints were still getting themselves into some good areas but couldn't quite get a chance to pull the trigger until Wright-Phillips missed a glorious chance on 78 minutes.

Andrew Surman spotted the run of Wright-Phillips and slid through a ball which picked him out perfectly.

He was in behind the back four with just the keeper to beat. Wright-Phillips opted to shoot when he got to the edge of the area but missed the target completely and a great chance had gone begging.

Coventry made their final change a minute later with Jay Tabb coming off for Isaac Osbourne.

Coventry managed to hit the bar from a deep free kick was miscued and clipped Davis' crossbar as he kept watch on it though a corner was given.

Burley made a second change with seven minutes remaining with Marek Saganowski coming on for Wright-Phillips.

Viafara threatened when he hooked a cross goalwards but it drifted well wide in the end.

Surman came much closer in the final stages of the game with a controlled low half volley from 20 yards that Konstantopoulos had to get down to his left to save.

That was the last real goal action of the match and when the game ended after four minutes of injury time it was honours even and points shared with a 1-1 draw.

But with Saints unbeaten in four and having taken eight points out of their last possible 12 it felt like another encouraging result for Burley's men which on another day could have been even better.
