MANAGER Ralph Hasenhuttl said Fraser Forster deserved to play at Everton after making the decision to drop Alex McCarthy.
Forster was recalled in the Premier League for the first time since January, having previously kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory against Liverpool.
He has impressed as Saints’ keeper in the FA Cup this season.
Asked about the change of goalkeeper ahead of kick-off, Hasenhuttl told Sky Sports: “I think the momentum to change for the team. He deserved to play – Fraser.
“He was the last one who had a clean sheet from our team.”
He added: “Alex didn’t do a bad job at the moment. The momentum was not on his side and we need this momentum.
“Hopefully, Fraser gives us this part of the game.”
