SAINTS have been handed a huge boost ahead of Saturday’s showdown with Liverpool, after the club successfully appealed Jannik Vestergaard’s red card received against Leicester City.

Vestergaard was dismissed by referee Robert Jones after 10 minutes at St Mary's on Friday, having been judged to have denied Jamie Vardy an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

But following an FA review, the card and suspension have now been rescinded.

The decision means Vestergaard will be available to feature for Saints against Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield this weekend.

A statement from The FA read: "An independent Regulatory Commission has removed Jannik Vestergaard’s one-match suspension following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.

"The Southampton FC defender was dismissed for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity during the Premier League fixture against Leicester City FC on Friday, April 30, 2021."

Vestergaard has played a key role in the heart of Saints defence this season, playing 25 times and scoring three goals.
