RALPH Hasenhuttl says departing Ryan Bertrand "did a good job for this club" after it was announced he would leave at the end of the season, adding: "Like always in life, things come to an end."
After seven years at Saints, Bertrand will leave when his contract expires in the summer.
Giving his reaction to the 31-year-old's impending exit from St Mary's, boss Hasenhuttl said: "He was here for seven years. Like always in football, things are coming to an end.
"I think he did a good job for this club and finally we have to move on. Like always in life, things come to an end and then you have to start something new and I think this is what we decided as a club.
"We will replace him in the summer.
"It’s normal in football I think to start new things."
Bertrand has played 240 games for Saints since arriving from Chelsea.
He is currently ruled out with a calf problem and won't be fit to feature against Fulham at St Mary's on Saturday.
