SAINTS are reportedly ready to battle it out with Aston Villa for the services of full-back Ghislain Konan from French outfit Stade de Reims.

The Daily Mail are reporting the Ligue 1 outfit would be looking for a fee of around £5.1million for the defender.

An Ivory Coast international, 25-year-old Konan has played 30 times in the French top flight for Reims this season, scoring twice and registering one assist.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed he would be on the lookout for a full-back this summer with Ryan Bertrand set to depart St Mary’s at the end of his contract.

Saints currently have youngster Jake Vokins out on loan at Sunderland as a left-back option.

The likes of Jack Stephens and Mohammed Salisu have occupied the role while Bertrand has been nursing a calf problem in recent weeks.

Konan has played 11 times for the Ivory Coast at senior international level.
