OVERSEAS star D'Arcy Short believes Hampshire are "going in the right direction", despite their slow start to this year's Vitality Blast.

Both of Hants' past two matches have been washed out without a ball being bowled, with games at Surrey and Gloucestershire abandoned.

Prior to that, Hawks had won just one of their opening four contests this season, meaning they currently sit eighth in the nine-team South Group.

But Aussie Short believes better results are not far away as Hampshire gear up for seven home T20 matches across June and July.

Short told the club's website: "I think we're going in the right direction, we just haven't put a full game together yet."

The all-rounder previously featured for Durham during the 2019 Blast and he relished the chance to return to the competition again this year.

Asked why he joined Hampshire, Short said: "It was just an early offer to come through and I was just excited to come back to England and play some more Vitality Blast.

"I think it was a good opportunity to come in and hopefully try and win some silverware for the boys."

He added: "It's just an exciting tournament to be a part of.

"Everyone is so welcoming, the teams are all very experienced and it's just a good place to come and play cricket."
