BEN Strevens’ Eastleigh side have been made 33/1 to win the National League, ahead of the season’s commencement in August.

After chasing play-offs and finishing 9th – three points off the top seven – in the recently passed 2020-2021 season, just ten clubs have been made shorter odds for the title by BetVictor.

Stockport County are the favourites at 9/2, followed by Hollywood-owned Wrexham, recently relegated Grimsby and the world's oldest professional club, Notts County.

At the bottom end of the table, Dover Athletic’s 12-point deduction means they start the season at 500/1 to take home the trophy, while Wealdstone, Altrincham, King’s Lynn Town and Dorset’s Weymouth are all priced at 250/1.

The Spitfires have a bye-week on the opening day of the season due to the makeup of a 23-team division, but face second-favourites 5/1 Wrexham at the Silverlake Stadium the following Saturday to begin their campaign.

Start as you mean to go on, with their final game of the season proving equally as challenging if the bookies’ odds are to be believed, welcoming 6/1 Grimsby to Hampshire on what the gaffer will hope could be a day of celebration.

Strevens told the Daily Echo: “We need to make sure that we add the right names but we’re hoping to go a little bit better than last year.

“It will be tough, but that’s what we are planning to do.”
