SAINTS youngster Caleb Watts saw his Olympic journey come to an end with Australia, after they were knocked out in the group stage of Tokyo 2020.

The midfielder was introduced as a late substitute for the Olyroos’ final group match against Egypt at the tournament on Wednesday.

Watts forced a late save with a low drive late on but was powerless to prevent Australia suffering a 2-0 defeat.

That meant, despite beating Argentina in their Group C opener, the Olyroos, who were also beaten by Spain, missed out on the quarter-final stages.

They finished bottom of the group with three points from as many games as Spain and Egypt progressed.

Watts enjoyed his breakthrough season at Saints last campaign, having made his senior debut for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup.

He went on to make three Premier League appearances for the St Mary’s outfit last season.
