SAINTS youngster Will Ferry expressed his desire to "stand out" during his time on loan at Crawley Town, insisting: "I don't just want to be another player."

Ferry signed a new two-year deal at Saints this week, before heading off for a season in League Two.

Discussing his new deal, the 20-year-old told the club's website: "It's a bit of a relief really, always good to get it done.

"I carry on the dream of making a career in football at a Premier League club, it's a thing I've been chasing my whole life, so it's good to extend it.

"It's them showing belief in me, that they don't just want me to go out and get football, they want me to prove I can do it at men's level and come back and hopefully come back and do it at Premier League level and prove to the manager and everybody else at the club I can perform in a men's environment."

Asked for his aims whilst at Crawley, Republic of Ireland under-21 international Ferry added: "I just want to prove to everyone what I can do.

"I want to get goals, assists, man-of-the-match, I want to stand out. I don't just want to be another player to be part of the game.

"I want people to come away and be like 'that Will Ferry, he played well' or 'he's going to be good' etcetera. I want to put my stamp on this season and see what happens from there."

And once his season in the EFL is complete, Ferry, who joined Saints from Bury in 2017, has his eyes firmly on breaking into Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.

Discussing how he sees his future at Saints, Ferry said: "Hopefully into the first team. I believe I can do it, hopefully as they've shown with giving me the contract, hopefully they believe I can do it as well."
