FRONTMAN Adam Armstrong thanked Saints’ fans for their “warm welcome” as he made his mark with a goal after 22 minutes of his career with the club.

The 24-year-old fired home the opener at Everton, after running on to a through ball from Che Adams.

It was his first career goal in the top-flight, having previously played 15 games in the division for Newcastle earlier in his career.

Despite Armstrong’s strike, Saints went on to lose 3-1 thanks to second-half goals from Richarlison, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Posting on his official Instagram account, Armstrong said: “What an unbelievable feeling getting my first Premier League goal!

“Disappointing not to come away with anything! Dust ourselves down and we go again!

“Thank you to the Saints fans for the warm welcome!”

Armstrong is expected to be involved when Saints host Manchester United at St Mary’s next Sunday.
