BEN Strevens’ Eastleigh have announced the capture of target-man striker Danny Whitehall subject to international clearance, after last playing for Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock.

He only netted twice in 17 appearances for Killy, however was prolific at National League level for Maidenhead United the season before (2019-20), where he notched 13 in 36 appearances.

The new permanent Spitfires forward is 6foot 3’ tall and spent some of his youth football days in Liverpool’s academy, before moving to Rochdale.

Interestingly, though, Whitehall then spent time in the United States and played college football for SIU Edwardsville Cougars and Hastings College – where he scored 93 in 75 for the latter, setting several records.

During these spells, he also played at club level for Chattanooga FC and Bugeaters FC, professional and semi-professional teams competing in leagues outside of the MLS.

It had been known that Strevens wanted to add another option going forward that represented a target-man, likely anticipating cover being needed on occasion for 35-year-old veteran hitman Tyrone Barnett.

Whitehall provides this and will hope to hit the form of his Maidenhead season – where he also bagged twice in three FA Trophy fixtures.

You can watch the embedded video below, which shows Whitehall scoring a creative ‘scorpion kick’ goal for Chattanooga FC.
