NEWPORT County have confirmed Saints' Carabao Cup second round tie vs the League Two outfit will take place on Wednesday August 25 at 7.45pm.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side travel to South Wales and Rodney Parade for their first cup action of the 2021-22 season.
Newport defeated League One Ipswich 1-0 away in the first round, continuing their reputation as something of cup specialists.
With the draw still regionalised for the second round, it’s about as long a trip as Saints could have been forced to make, with the Premier League’s longest journey to Newcastle that same weekend.
Their cup opponents have had a mixed start to their League Two season, though, with a victory over Oldham and defeat at the hands of Mansfield in their opening two fixtures.
