RALPH Hasenhuttl is familiar with new Manchester United star Jadon Sancho, who could get his first start in red against Saints, but insisted: “He will definitely have a good impact, but we are not scared if he plays at the weekend.”

The England international winger netted eight goals and registered 12 assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund during the 2020-21 campaign, before sealing his £75million move.

He also scored six and laid on five in six DFB Pokal matches as Dortmund went on to win the most prestigious cup tournament in the country.

Hasenhuttl is familiar with a lot of the Bundesliga stars having managed Red Bull Leipzig and, being Austrian, keeping tabs on the division.

United don’t need any additional firepower based on their opening performance against Leeds, which finished 5-1 thanks to Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba masterclasses.

Asked about Sancho, Hasenhuttl said: “I know him and I think he will definitely have a good impact in the Premier League.

“We are not scared if he plays at the weekend. I know he is a strong player but Man United have so much quality.

“It will also be tough to defend against Mason Greenwood and the other players but we must do it together, committed and very disciplined.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be aiming to lift a first Premier League title with the Red Devils since 2012-13 – particularly with the signings he’s made that include World Cup-winner Raphael Varane.

It will be as tough a test as one could have provided for Saints’ first game back at St Mary’s with a capacity crowd for 18 months.

He added: “Not only because of the signings they have made.

“Ole has now been working with them for quite a long time now and with every year you get more committed to each other and it becomes clear what you want to do.

“There is massive quality in this side and they are getting more and more consistent in their performances. They showed that last season and can show it again after this Sunday.”
