EASTLEIGH manager Ben Strevens was left shocked by their 3-0 Bank Holiday defeat to Bromley and insisted: “The facts are we’ve lost 3-0 but how we’ve not scored a few times, it’s just one of those days.”

The Spitfires travelled for their first away game of the National League season but came unstuck after goals from ex-loanee-Spitfire James Alabi, Corey Whitely and the prolific Michael Cheek.

The Bromley side also featured a recent Eastleigh icon in full-back, Joe Partington, who moved to the London outfit after two spells with the Hampshire side.

Following the result, Strevens’ side are left without points from either of their first two games ahead of the visit from King’s Lynn Town this Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Strevens told the club website: “Yeah, clearly not the result we wanted and anyone who wasn’t here or sees the scores come in will think it’s been a convincing 3-0 from Bromley.

“But it couldn’t be further from the truth. The facts are we’ve lost 3-0 but how we’ve not scored a few times today, yeah it is just one of those days where it seems to go against you.

“We’ve just got to keep our heads and see the work-rate, see the willing to help each other. The scoreline is disappointing and I’m frustrated but we’re two games in and we’ve just got to prepare for Saturday.

“In fairness to their goalkeeper he pulled off some good saves, Joe (McDonnell) did too. The first goal is completely out of the blue.

“I’m not a manager who is going to shout and scream at someone, they’ve made a mistake and that is the nature of football.

“It’s just disappointing with the second goal I’ll have to see it back, we were well in the first half and I don’t know what happened, switching off.

Strevens denies the legitimacy of the final goal, though, which was added by last season’s National League top goalscorer Cheek with only minutes to spare.

He continued: “The third one is because I’ve put as many attacking players on as I can to try and get back into the game, it’s 100% a handball and should never be a goal.

“But that doesn’t matter, the scoreline is the scoreline.”
