ANDREW Davies completed his move to Saints and insisted the squad have the passion and commitment to win promotion.

The central defender is adamant that George Burley's squad is "desperate" to regain the club's Premiership place lost three seasons ago.

"You have here a bunch of lads who are desperate to get to the Premiership and to do well for this club," said the 23-year-old who has signed for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £1m.

"The fans don't always see that but I see it every day.

"There is a group of players working their socks off and who are desperate to go up - that is another reason I signed."

Saints host lowly Scunthorpe at St Mary's tomorrow as near to the play-offs - six points - as they are to the visitors who are embedded in the relegation zone.

Though Saints enjoyed a welcome 2-0 FA Cup win against Leicester last weekend, they have only picked up three points out of the last 15 in the Championship.

"People have pointed to the fact we dropped a few points over Christmas but if you look at the table we are only six points off the play-offs," said Davies.

"It is important the fans and everyone at the club pull together. With everyone supporting each other I am sure we can get up.

"We are not far away but maybe we just need to be a bit more nasty at times.

"Teams might come here and think they have a chance of winning because Southampton play pretty football, but we have to make sure they do not have it easy when they come here.

"We need to be a bit more aggressive and upset teams and then I am sure we can win promotion."
