ONLY one Saints player was involved in international action on Friday, October 8, with the break getting into full swing with today’s fixtures.
But it was an equally important one with Moi Elyounoussi returning to World Cup qualifying action with Norway.
Typically part of a strong three-prong attack, Elyounoussi was without forwards Erling Haaland and Alexander Sorloth due to the pair withdrawing from the squad through injury.
Second in Group G, behind the Netherlands, they took on third-placed Turkey in Istanbul and were held to a 1-1 draw by the EURO 2020 disappointments.
Elyounoussi played a full 90’ as 22-year-old stand-in forward Kristian Thorstvedt cancelled out a Turkey opener to keep the group standings the same.
With three games to play, the Netherlands top the standings with 16, while Norway (14), Turkey (12) and Montenegro (11) are likely chasing the playoff spot for Qatar.
