RALPH Hasenhuttl confirms that Che Adams will not be available for selection for the visit of Leeds United to St Mary’s on Saturday.

The Scottish striker returned from international duty early before their game against Faroe Islands on Tuesday with a muscle injury.

After Armando Broja was ineligible for the match against his parent side at Stamford Bridge in the last Premier League fixture, Hasenhuttl will now be unable to choose another of his strikers for a second consecutive game.

However, the Austrian boss did confirm that the injury isn’t too serious – giving this update on his side.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference he said: “Jack Stephens is still out. We have Che Adams return back from international with a muscle injury.

“It’s not too serious but for this game on the weekend he is definitely out.

“The rest is all good, I don’t see everybody back (from international duty) so far but the reports have all been quite positive that they are all okay.”

As well as the two named injuries, Hasenhuttl will also be without his skipper James Ward-Prowse.

The likely candidate to replace the 26-year-old midfielder is French prodigy Ibrahima Diallo, who is yet to make his first start of the Premier League campaign but did play 45’ against Chelsea last time out.

He also netted his first Saints goal in the EFL Cup tie at Sheffield United, and will look to build on what could be a really positive start to 2021-22 with the upcoming three-game suspension of Ward-Prowse.

On the 22-year-old Frenchman, Hasenhuttl added: “It was always tough for him with Ori (Romeu) and Prowsey because we have two players who are quite settled in the first XI.

“So for him it was hard for him to step in, but I must say he has showed in a lot of games the quality he has. In some moments he has to be a little more serious I think, his first duel up front can be a better one.

“He has still a lot to improve in his game but his total package, especially his physical options, I am convinced he is a Premier League player on a good level and now he has a chance to show it.”

He continued: “I think he had a few chances to play in the cup, he did a good job and scored against Sheffield so he is definitely a player that can show more and he has a good chance now for the next three games and yeah, let’s have a look.”
