BOSS Ralph Hasenhuttl believes Saints' victory over Leeds United was "very deserved" as his side finally racked up their first Premier League win of the season.

Armando Broja's second-half goal was all that separated the sides, but in truth it could have been a greater margin than the 1-0 win, with a poor Leeds side rarely threatening all afternoon.

Discussing Saints' first league win of the campaign, at the eighth attempt, Hasenhuttl said: "It was a very deserved win I must say because they had no chances and we had a few very good ones.

"Only scored once, but I thought the game was very good.

"I think we had a few good chances. Armando did a good job today, Reddy (Nathan Redmond) also up front.

"We tried with a new couple, to be more dangerous.

"I think the plan worked quite well."

He added: "It was a special game for the way we played. Two days to prepare."

Victory lifts Saints up to 15th in the Premier League table, now four points clear of the relegation zone, ahead of a clash with Burnley at St Mary's next Saturday.
