EASTLEIGH fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at title-chasing Chesterfield in a National League clash on Tuesday.

Ben Strevens’ side were undone by a Kabongo Tshimanga prod in the first-half after excellent work from Stefan Payne to get down the byline.

The tap-in is lethal striker Tshimanga’s 11th goal in 13 games so far this campaign, after he hit 17 in 42 wearing Boreham Wood colours last season.

The Spitfires had chances to equalise with the best coming from centre-back Andrew Boyce, but his goalward header from a Tom Whelan and Harry Pritchard set-play was deflected out for a corner.

The defeat, their first in five in all competitions, sees Eastleigh sit 13th in the table after 12 games played – seven points behind Dagenham & Redbridge in the playoffs, but with a game in hand.

Strevens’ outfit welcome Maidenhead United to the Silverlake Stadium this Saturday, October 30 (3PM).
