AFTER a disappointing 2-2 draw with Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday, Saints' players knew they had to produce a performance of inspiration at Stamford Bridge.
They did so, holding European champions Chelsea to a 1-1 draw after finding themselves 1-0 down to a Kai Havertz header at half-time.
Che Adams' goal equalised but in the end it was an exit from the EFL Cup anyway, following a 4-3 defeat in the ensuing penalty shootout.
But with nine changes named from the side that played Saturday by manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, it was a well-battled performance with plenty of positives to take out.
