SAINTS B coach Dave Horseman has admitted “it was probably the first time some of them have seen me angry” despite eventually defeating League Two Crawley Town 4-0.

The young Saints ended a run of 18 games without a win last month - a run that had stretched back to February – and have been imperious since.

They’ve won five in a row culminating in the first EFL Trophy victory of the season at Crawley, and haven’t conceded a goal in any of those five games.

Results have included 4-0 and 5-0 demolitions of Aston Villa and Newcastle in Premier League 2.

"This was a game when we played Leyton Orient, we would have lost," Horseman said, speaking to the club website after the Crawley game.

"But I think there was a bit of belief that we could get a result and seeing games out. We did a few things (against Crawley) which we didn't do in the earlier games, which is a shame, but we headed a few where we needed to, defended much better.

"The set plays were much better and we have worked really hard on that to make sure we are like the first team.

"We did the dirty things you need to do to win games, and I think that was the reason we got the result.

"I thought there were a few who could have done better and come out of their shells a bit more," he added.

"There were spaces to play, but it was a weird feeling because we were clinical, which is what we were missing early on in the season, but we have played much better and lost.

"It was probably the momentum we have got at the moment that got us over the line, but I think we can do better.”

Saints B were already 2-0 up by half-time and it could have easily been three, but for a Ramello Mitchell goal ruled out for offside.

Despite this, Horseman said: "It was probably the first time some of them have seen me angry, but we have high expectations of them and they are a talented bunch, but we have to drive them on.

“They got told, but second half they took the information on and I thought they were better in the second half, and it is all part of their journey.

"It was a good learning experience and I think they will have decent futures if they stick with the good mentality."
