BOSS Ralph Hasenhuttl hoped Saints defender Jan Bednarek was replaced in time against Leicester City on Wednesday - to avoid him picking up an injury concern.
The Poland international had netted the opener after just three minutes of the 2-2 draw with the Foxes at St Mary’s.
But after 85 minutes of the Premier League clash, the 25-year-old was replaced by Brazilian Lyanco, having received treatment.
Asked for an update on the former Lech Poznan man, Hasenhuttl told the Daily Echo: “Hopefully he stepped out just in time before the calf problem was coming to an injury.”
Bednarek’s goal was his first for Saints this season – his previous strike came in a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United November 2020.
He has played 16 times for Saints in all competitions this season.
