Colin Kenna has gone from kicking his heels to preparing for a massive fight in the space of just a few days.

The Southampton-based heavyweight had no fight scheduled as his follow-up to the creditable defeat at the hands of Roman Greenberg last time out but has been handed a terrific opportunity at short notice.

He wi ll take on Polish boxer Albert Sosnowski at the Gorsebrooks Leisure Centre in Dagenham on Friday in a bout that will almost certainly be shown on Sky TV - providing he can rush through the necessary medical requirements.

With Kenna not expecting to fight so soon, his medical had just lapsed and now he is facing a race against time to get both that and a CT scan done and submitted to the British Board of Boxing control having taken the fight at ten days' notice.

Kenna will undergo all the tests and have the scan today and that should mean he can take the fight.

Sosnowski has what on paper looks an impressive record of 39 wins and just one defeat from 40 fights but hasn't faced opponents of terrific calibre.

Kenna's trainer, Jack Bishop, is hopeful the fight will go ahead and that Kenna can win.

He said: "The medical and the CT scan will be done today and sent direct to the Board, so hopefully that'll go through alright."
