SAINTS have announced goalkeeper Willy Caballero has extended his deal at St Mary’s until the end of the season.
The veteran stopper was parachuted into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad last month as cover for the injured Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster.
Caballero, who had originally signed a one-month deal until January 5 with the Hampshire side, has played twice for the club in Premier League games against Arsenal and Crystal Palace.
He has been on the bench as understudy to the returning Forster during Saints’ clashes with West Ham and Tottenham in recent weeks.
The 40-year-old former Chelsea and Manchester City man could be back between the sticks when Saints visit Swansea City in the FA Cup tomorrow.
Caballero told the club website: “I have really enjoyed my time here so far and I am very pleased to be able to stay for the rest of the season.
“There is a very positive atmosphere here. It has been good to work with the rest of the goalkeepers, and I hope I can continue to help the team in the coming months.”
