SWANSEA boss Russell Martin has given a positive update on the COVID situation which has ravaged his Championship squad over the last month.

The South Wales outfit have not played since mid-December due to COVID postponements and even now they are not up to a full complement.

Saints are due to travel to Swansea for an FA Cup third round tie on today – with kick-off at 5:30pm.

However, Martin, who took over as Swans manager in the summer after leaving League One MK Dons, has revealed that they’ve not taken a positive test in “a couple of days”.

Speaking ahead of the FA Cup clash with Saints, Martin said: “It's (the squad) a bit fuller, but we’re still missing a couple who tested positive earlier this week.

"We’ve been a couple of days without any positives now. The squad is not back to full quota but we’re in a much better place than we were.

“We can put a very strong team out tomorrow which is the main thing. It’s been a good week of work and we’re really excited to have a game.

"We’re hopeful we’ve broken the back of it. We were not in on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday we've had nothing.

“There are lots who are fit. We’re able to name a strong team with a couple of young guys on the bench.

“A couple of the guys who are back are not ready yet.”

Saints themselves are without six players through injury, COVID and suspension at the time of writing.
