SAINTS have moved into pole position to complete the signing of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this winter, according to BetVictor odds.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side were not even priced on the betting yesterday but after Henderson was absent from Red Devils’ squad to face Aston Villa the Saints have leapfrogged into pole position at 3/1.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe's Newcastle United remain competitively priced and are currently given odds of just 4/1 to bring Henderson to the North East.

Elsewhere, Ajax remain Henderson's most likely destination outside of England at 6/1, whilst Tottenham and Brentford are the next most likely English clubs that the England international could end up at (12/1).

The 24-year-old shot-stopper impressed during a Premier League loan spell with Sheffield United during the 2019-20 season, before becoming a bit-part keeper for his parent club.

Henderson even earned himself an England international cap, but has fallen down in favour at United after a resurgence in David De Gea’s form.

It is reported that he wants to leave the club and find more regular gametime, with his career currently stalling after no Premier League appearances and just two in all competitions this campaign.

However, Saints have three experienced goalkeepers already within their ranks and just extended Willy Caballero’s short-term contract until the end of the season.

Henderson could be a long-term solution to Hasenhuttl’s goalkeeper situation, with one of Fraser Forster and Alex McCarthy – whose contracts both expire this year – set to leave the club this summer.

New owners Sport Republic have given Hasenhuttl the funds to move on a permanent deal for a player or two if he wishes, but it is likely United would hold a ransom too high for the release of the Three Lions prospect.
