AS always after a match, there is a lot to digest and takeaway. Whilst analysis at Saints might be slightly more technical, we've picked some interesting talking points after Saturday's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves.

58 – Saints averaged 58 per cent possession in both games with Wolves this season. They’ve only had more of the ball in four other Premier League games.

8 – The amount of free-kicks James Ward-Prowse has scored since the start of the 2019/20 season. That’s five more than the next best record – with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold notching three. In his Premier League career, Ward-Prowse now has 12 free-kick goals, second to only David Beckham.

5404 – How many days since Saints last beat Wolves at Molineux. A 6-0 win back in March 2007 was the last time Saints took three points from a trip to Wolverhampton, although Saints were victorious last year in the FA Cup.

90  – Jose Sa saved 90 per cent of Saints’ 10 shots on target, with only James Ward-Prowse’s swerving effort beating him.

2 – How many matches Michael Salisbury has now refereed in the Premier League. The match official was promoted last summer, with his first game being Crystal Palace’s defeat at home to Aston Villa. The referee has been fast-tracked up the leagues, only making his debut in the Championship last season.

19 – Saints named an unchanged side for the first time in 19 Premier League games. Hasenhuttl has changed his lineup every game (for a myriad of reasons) since the home draw with Manchester United, with the same starting eleven also taking the field for Saints’ opening day loss to Everton.

1 – Wolves are the first side to the double over Saints this season. It is the first time either side has won both league meetings in a season since the 2008/09 campaign, when Wolves again beat Saints twice en route to winning the Championship title.

78 – Ward-Prowse has now led Saints out 78 times as captain in all competitions. He first skippered the side just over three years ago, wearing the armband against Derby County in the FA Cup.

10 – Saints were awarded 10 corners against Wolves, the joint-most they have won in a Premier League game this season. Their home game with another Midlands outfit, Aston Villa, also produced 10 corners.

3 – Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have lost to Wolves in their last three encounters, meaning Wanderers have the longest active winning streak over Saints out of any of their Premier League opponents.

28 – The last time Saints managed to comeback and win from going behind two goals was against Burnley in April 2021, 28 league games ago. Under Hasenhuttl, that is the only game in the Premier League his side have come back from a two goal deficit, suggesting alarm bells should ring when Saints go behind by that margin.
