IN our reoccurring series, we take a look at the numbers and trends stemming from Saints' game with Manchester City at the weekend.

Whilst the most impressive - and important - number will be the point earnt from the encounter with the league leaders, here are a few interesting stats we've picked out.

27Saints only had 27 per cent possession against City – their lowest amount of the season by some measure, with their next lowest total 35 per cent away at Liverpool.

It is the lowest possession total under Hasenhuttl since last season, when Saints only had 26 per cent in the 9-0 thumping away at Old Trafford.

Under Hasenhuttl, Saints have had less than a third of the ball in a game against City five times – with the lowest share of possession in the League Cup match during the 2019/20 campaign, with Saints only seeing 23 per cent possession.

Daily Echo:

68 – How many games it took Kyle Walker-Peters to score his maiden Premier League goal. It is only the third senior strike for the full-back, who previously scored against Rochdale in the FA Cup and Newport County in the League Cup.

11 – Saints have now gone 11 Premier League games without keeping a clean sheet. This run is in stark contrast to their opening 11 games of the campaign, when they managed five clean sheets.

7 – No side has drawn more home games this season than Saints. Only lowly Newcastle come close – drawing six of their 11 home matches, whilst Saints have picked up a single point seven times from their 11 matches at St Mary’s.

10 – Ralph Hasenhuttl has now faced Pep Guardiola more times than any other manager. The pair first met in Germany, when Hasenhuttl managed FC Inglostadt, whilst Pep led Bayern Munich.

Guardiola got the better of Hasenhuttl in the Bundesliga, beating him and his Leipzig side twice. Across their spells in England and Germany, the Austrian has only beaten his opposite number once, drawing twice and losing the other seven meetings.

222 – Oriol Romeu made his 222nd appearance in the Premier League, picking up his 59th yellow card. Only former Spurs and Charlton full-back Luke Young has been booked more times without being sent-off – 60 yellows in 378 games.

78 – Saints won 78 per cent of their tackles at the weekend, pickpocketing City players 18 times from 23 attempts. It is the highest successful tackle ratio for Saints this season (in games where they attempted 10+ tackles). Only in the home draw with City’s rivals Manchester United have Saints won more tackles – winning 21 out of 29.

21.6 – The percentage of successful pressures during Saturday’s game, Saints’ second lowest total this season. Only in the opening day loss away at Everton were Saints less successful in closing down opponents and winning the ball back – managing only 20.5 per cent. Saints pressed City 204 times, winning the ball back within five seconds 44 times. In the reverse fixture their attempts were more fruitful – but more measured in their approach, with Saints closing down City 83 times and winning the ball back 30 times (36.1 per cent.)

128 – The amount of clearances Mohammed Salisu has made in the league this season, putting him top of the list in that particular category amongst Premier League players. He made 15 clearances Saturday evening, also contributing four blocks, six tackles and three interceptions in a standout defensive performance.

1.13 – Saints are currently averaging 1.13 points per game, more than enough to secure survival based on history. The highest points per game total that saw a team relegated was West Ham with 1.10 in the 2002/03 season, with the Hammers picking up 42 points from 38 games.

At their current rate, Saints would end the season on roughly 43 points. In comparison, if Newcastle, who occupy the final relegation spot, were to continue on the same trajectory of 0.71 points per game, they would end the campaign on just 27 points.

Daily Echo:

25 - Armando Broja has been caught offside five times, more than any other Saints player. His five offsides account for a quarter (25 per cent) of Saints' total of 20, the lowest amount in the league.
