KAYNE Ramsay made his full debut for new loan side Ross County on Saturday and was “thrown into the deep end,” after being asked to start in centre-back.

The 21-year-old right-back had his previous season-long switch to Crewe Alexandra cancelled early and instead moved to the Scottish Premiership side during this January window.

After making his debut as a late substitute versus Motherwell last week, Ramsay was then afforded his first start of the spell by Malky McKay during the Scottish Cup clash at Livingstone.

Rather than operate in his usual full-back position, Ramsay was asked to play alongside left-back and fellow Saints loanee Jake Vokins as a central defender.

Ross County slipped to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of a penalty-kick but Ramsay’s induvial performance caught the eye of supporters.

Peter Mackay wrote in the Press and Journal fan view: “Ramsay, who signed as a right back, was thrown in at the deep end for his full debut.

“He played in the centre of defence. He handled the task incredibly well, winning many of his duals whilst using his pace to drive the team forward.

"(Declan) Drysdale and Ramsay were the shining lights in a performance which was reminiscent of our form at the start of the campaign."

Ramsay will remain on loan in Scotland until the end of the current campaign.

The youngster, who is experienced at Under-18 Premier League and Premier League 2 level for Saints’ academy, has a contract at St Mary’s until summer 2023.
