DOVER secured their first win of the National League season at the expense of Eastleigh, with a 1-0 win on Tuesday night.

The Spitfires travelled to Dover having just sold star forward Ben House to Lincoln City and had a nightmare evening thanks to Alfie Pavey’s solitary goal.

It was the bottom-placed hosts first win of the campaign after 25 attempts, while Eastleigh remain 14th and 11 points off the playoff places.

Ben Strevens handed a first league start of the season to striker Dan Smith, who had been out on loan in the National League North.

After an evenly contested first-half where neither side threatened to break the deadlock, two half-chances fell in the way of Eastleigh just after the break but neither were converted.

The home side then made the decisive breakthrough in the 1-0 success just before the hour mark when Pavey coolly slotted home in the bottom right corner.

The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser and substitute Jake Hesketh came close with 10 minutes to go when he saw his deflected effort drift wide of the target.

The Whites weathered a late Eastleigh storm to hold on for their first three points of the campaign.

Strevens' side also lost at struggling Dover last campaign, before they withdrew from the season and their results were expunged.
