MANAGER Ralph Hasenhuttl reiterated “no player wanted to leave” Saints during the January transfer window amid reports emerging about centre-back Mohammed Salisu.
An article published by online media outlet 90min.com claimed “talks took place over Ghanaian ace Salisu” with Newcastle, with a £40million transfer plus add-ons mooted.
The article continued to claim the Magpies wanted to finalise a deal in the early stages of January before new owners Sport Republic kiboshed the move.
Asked whether he could shed any light on the story which emerged, Hasenhuttl said: “As I said before – no player wanted to leave this club in the winter.
“And if, we would definitely say no to everything, because we will not give our players a chance in the winter to leave because we need them here.
“We really need them.”
Salisu has played 38 times for Saints in all competitions since moving from Real Valladolid in 2020.
