Ross County announce Josh Sims signing as Malky Mackay thanks Southampton

FORMER Saints winger Josh Sims has signed for Scottish Premiership side Ross County, with manager Malky Mackay admitting he is “absolutely delighted” to acquire him.

The 24-year-old had been a free agent since he departed the St Mary’s outfit last summer, dealing with cardiac and bowel health issues - myocarditis and ulcerative colitis.

However, Sims will be hoping to put those behind him and get back to enjoying his football first and foremost.

He will be linking up with current Saints loanees Jake Vokins and Kayne Ramsay, who north of the border for the remainder of the campaign.

After getting Sims’ signature, Mackay told the club website: “We are absolutely delighted to bring Josh to Ross County.

“He is a player we have been aware of for a considerable time, and a great deal of work done to bring Josh to Dingwall.

“We have had to be patient and keep in regular contact over the course of the past 9 months, and are delighted to finally be able to sign him.”

He continued: “Josh is an exciting player with great domestic and international experience that will add to our group, and he is a player I think our fans will really enjoy watching.

“I’d like to once again thank Southampton for our continued relationship.”

The former England youth international made 27 first-team appearances for Saints after graduating from the youth teams.

He also had spells with Reading, New York Red Bulls and Doncaster Rovers.

Sims will have to continue to monitor his cardiac health as he now progresses with his footballing career.

In a 2021 interview with The Athletic, he said: “Where I move next, they will obviously be aware of my heart.

“There are still a lot of clubs interested, which has helped me a lot.”
