BOSS Marieanne Spacey-Cale admitted she could not recall seeing anything in the women’s game quite like keeper Kayla Rendell’s dramatic goal - but admitted it would have been more enjoyable with FA Cup progress.

The Saints Women’s stopper set tongues wagging across social media after she advanced forward for a corner, with her side trailing 1-0 in extra-time against Ipswich.

Leaping to meet Lucia Kendall’s corner, the England youth international headed into the net to make it 1-1 and send the travelling fans wild at Goldstar Stadium.

Unfortunately for Saints, Rendell was unable to be their hero in the resulting penalty shootout, with the Tractor Girls progressing 4-2 from the spot to book their place in the last eight.

Asked about Rendell’s dramatic leveller, Spacey-Cale told the Daily Echo: “I can’t remember it in the women’s game, certainly not.

“I remember in the men’s game when the Liverpool keeper (Alisson Becker) did something like that.

“She trusted herself. It was a great delivery from the set-piece and you could see by the reaction of everybody – they were delighted for her.

“But no doubt she will be thinking ‘yeah that was great but we went out on penalties’.

“She is very much about the squad, very much about ‘if we could have all done this together and enjoyed that goal even more’.

“But we will lick our wounds, get back into training and come back better for this.”

Saints conjured up some magical moments to reach the last 16 of the competition.

Caitlin Morris’s winner against south coast rivals Portsmouth came in the third round before her sister Ella Morris popped up with the defining goal against Bristol City at St Mary’s last month.

“You don’t get into this round of the cup without having special moments leading into it,” added England icon Spacey-Cale.

“Every special moment is a fantastic memory for everybody involved.

“But we want to use that, use these memories, create other memories as well.

“What’s important for us is we use this in the right way, use this in a positive way and just make sure we don’t let the disappointment overrun into days and weeks moving forward.”

Saints host Crawley Wasps in the National League Cup at Snows Stadium on Sunday (2pm).
