RALPH Hasenhuttl revealed that his line-up for tonight’s win over West Ham was put together with Aston Villa in mind – and the fact that five substitutes are allowed in the FA Cup.

The Austrian named nine changes to the side that beat Norwich on Friday night in the Premier League, with incoming Romain Perraud opening scores with a belter of a striker from over 25 yards out.

Michail Antonio’s scrappy equaliser was quickly forgotten as James Ward-Prowse converted from the spot after substitute Armando Broja was felled, before the Albanian sealed affairs in added time with a mazy run and placed finished.

In the previous round of the Cup against Coventry City, Hasenhuttl admitted that he planned a starting XI for each game in the gauntlet of fixtures that saw them play three times in the space of seven days.

This time around, it appears Hasenhuttl is yet to decide on the team for Saturday’s trip to Villa Park.

The 54-year-old then admitted that with the extended gap between the Norwich game and West Ham, it would have been a possibility to field the same XI for a third game in a row.

When asked by the Daily Echo if he had again had pre-planned line-ups for the two games, Hasenhuttl replied: “No, it was this week a little more difficult because we had now the longer break from Friday to Wednesday.

“It would also have been possible to go now with the same squad what we played against the Norwich, and then change for the Saturday game.”

Hasenhuttl, a strong campaigner for the Premier League to introduce five subs, made full use of the allowed changes – making a double switch at half-time to introduce eventual match winner Broja.

Hasenhuttl highlighted the reason why he made changes for West Ham, stating: “The problem is, in the Saturday game you don't have this many changes you can do, subs you can make.

“And today we had five, so I decided to go today with a completely change team and then have five subs to react to whatever I need.”

Saints are now in the draw for the quarter-final, alongside fellow Premier League sides Chelsea, Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Manchester City.

Middlesbrough are currently the only Championship side in the draw, but there will definitely be two from the second tier, with Huddersfield taking on Nottingham Forest on Monday.

The draw will be made just before Everton take on Boreham Wood tomorrow evening, at approximately 8.00pm on ITV 4.
