HARRY Kane described as a “great lad” new England squad member Kyle Walker-Peters and added: “He has done really well at Southampton.”

The pair were team-mates during Walker-Peters’s time at Tottenham, having both progressed through the youth ranks in north London.

Walker-Peters was called into the England squad by Gareth Southgate this week, following the withdrawals of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James.

He has earned his chance in the senior international arena, having played 73 times for Saints.

The full-back initially joined Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side on loan from Spurs in January 2020, going on to seal a reported £12million move the following summer.

And Kane insisted it was good to have some fresh names among the England ranks, including his former club team-mate.

The England captain said: "It is great to have new faces in the squad, young faces, I feel like I am getting older and older by the day. It is great to see them.

“I obviously know Kyle from when he was at Spurs, he is a great lad, he works really hard and he has done really well at Southampton.

"With Marc (Guehi) and Tyrick (Mitchell) they have come in and settled in well and it is really good for the squad.

“It is good to have young players coming through and we are excited to see them over the next week or so."

Walker-Peters could make his England debut when the Three Lions host Switzerland in a friendly at Wembley on Saturday (5.30pm).
